RCMP looking for suspect after armed robbery in Nanaimo

An armed robbery at the Fairview Corner Store in has Nanaimo RCMP searching for a suspect.

A man walked into the store at the corner of Howard Ave and Second St. just after 4:30pm on Tuesday and asked for some change.

As the clerk reached into the till, the man pulled out a knife and demanded money. When the clerk reached for the phone to call 9-1-1, the man grabbed a small mental container with some loose change off the counter and ran away.

Nanaimo RCMP officers were on scene within minutes. Because of the number of pedestrians in the area, a Police Services dog was not deployed. Police believe there may have been a car waiting nearby.

The suspect is described as white, 17-18 years old, 5 ft 10 with short, dirty blonde hair. He was wearing a long sleeve sweatshirt and dark pants.
