Construction boom in Nanaimo

The City has issued a number of significant building permits in the first three months of 2019.

The construction value is just over 130 million dollars.

That compares to the total 2018 construction value of 216 million and the previous ten year average of 185 million.

The permits issued for 2018, so far, are for 70 million dollars worth of residential construction, almost 57 million dollars for commercial, and just over 3 million dollars for industrial projects.

The permits are for projects like the 22 million dollar, 9-storey hotel at 100 Gordon Street, a 6-storey hotel at 15 Front Street valued at 9 million dollars, a 74-unit affordable and market rental project on Estevan Road and a 57-unit affordable seniors housing project on Prideaux Street.
