Sunshine Coast RCMP is raising red flags after a resident nearly fell victim to a fraud.
Mounties say the victim had paid an online computer repair company to fix his computer in December.
But, this month he was notified by the company they were going out of business and wanted to buy back the software they had installed on his computer.
He gave them remote access to his computer to “remove” the software, and thru his online banking, permission to deposit the buy back fee.
That’s when he was told by the scammer they had deposited 100 times the buy back fee in error, and they asked for a refund.
The resident did as instructed but his bank was able to put a halt to the transaction.
