Bulky bylaw to get overhaul

A new and improved development bylaw aims to be more user-friendly and will address some new community issues.
The Sunshine Coast Regional District’s Zoning Bylaw 310 covers development from Halfmoon Bay to West Howe Sound.
It was written in 1989 and has been amended 170 times.
The SCRD’s GM of Planning and Community Development, Ian Holl said the new bylaw will be more streamlined, easier to use and will address new development issues.
“I think it will be a blend of both improved user friendliness and deal with some new areas.  There are issues in the planning world like short-term rentals and cannabis production and retail that just didn’t exist at the time this bylaw was created back in the 80’s.”
The new bylaw will also address issues surrounding home-based business, residential agriculture, and housing diversity.
Holl said the work to write a new bylaw has been ongoing since December and Monday an online community questionnaire will launch to get some public input into the document.
