Decision delayed in Cramer trial

A decision has been delayed in the trial of a man accused of killing a Gabriola Island woman in 2011. The judge will set a date for sentencing on Monday, May 26, 2014.

50-year-old Elaine Schwartz was stabbed to death at her home on the Island. Her 18-year-old son was also attacked and badly injured.

Jason Cramer is charged with 2nd degree murder and attempted murder.

During his trial the arguments focused not on whether he did it, but whether he should be held criminally responsible for his actions.

Schwartz’s murder shocked the close-knit community and sparked a complete lock-down of Gabriola and an Island-wide manhunt.
