Evacuation order coming to Sechelt subdivision Friday

An Evacuation Alert was issued by The District of Sechelt for the Seawatch Concordia Subdivision three days ago.

That’s being changed to an Order on Friday according to a letter issued to Seawatch residents today.

Mayor Darnelda Siegers says when the evacuation alert was sent out, they let the residents know that they need to be prepared to move out soon.

“Residents need to leave the area before 1pm on Friday,” said Siegers.

“We allowed the residents to stay for an additional week during this evacuation alert. We informed them of the risks and had them acknowledge that they understood the risks and a sinkhole could develop at any time without any warning at any time.”

Once the deadline hits on Friday afternoon, the District of Sechelt will put fencing around the neighborhood and the gates will be locked.

Geotechnical instability in the Seawatch Concordia Subdivsion has resulted in multiple sinkholes.

Because of the potential danger to life and health, the District of Sechelt had issued an Evacuation Alert for the following areas:
6629 to 6689 North Gale Avenue and 6644 to 6649 Seawatch Lane
