The Town of Gibsons is anticipating a new youth representative will join their team soon.

The representative won’t be able to vote on any council matters or attend in camera meetings, but they’ll be able to weigh in on town discussions and matters.

Mayor Bill Beamish explains how the selection process will work.

“We did reach out to the high school through the vice principal who also reached out to the alternate school. We have received applications that council will be considering and we will be making a recommendation.”

Two students will be selected. A grade 12 student will serve as the youth representative and another grade 11 student will serve as the alternate.

An announcement could happen as soon as the next council meeting.
