LNG opponent hoping for repeat of 2008 UBCM resolution

Eoin Finn wants LNG tankers banned from the Salish Sea, and he wants local governments to help.

Finn is hoping they’ll back a Union of BC Municipalities resolution similar to one sparked by plans for an LNG facility on Texada Island in 2008.  That resolution called for a federal ban on LNG tankers in the Salish Sea.

Finn says if an LNG terminal at Woodfibre in Howe Sound goes ahead, it would mean huge tankers moving through already crowded waters.

Finn says with a potential spike in oil and coal shipping the risks of accidents leading to spills or explosions are too great.  Finn says opponents of the Woodfibre plan are also concerned about the safety and environmental impact of the terminal itself.

Just last week Premier Clark signed a “letter of intent” with the company behind the Woodfibre project.
