Power outages and ferry cancellations from windy conditions

The wind is wreaking havoc for some.

Tyler Hamilton, a meteorologist with the Weather Network said numerous ferry sailings are being canceled and there are a number of power outages too.

“On Vancouver Island, we have already seen more than 10,000 customers without power. Most of them situated in the Comox Valley, Nanaimo, Parksville and some of the Northern Gulf Islands, so we expect power outages to continue with this first front.”

There are also outages on the Sunshine Coast as a result of the windy weather.

Hamilton said there will be a break in the wind tomorrow (Sat) morning and then the wind will pick up again Saturday night.

He says the North Island will bear the brunt of it with hurricane force winds around 119 kilometers per hour, but the rest of us won’t be unscathed.
