Governments spend money for flood mapping

Flooding is Canada’s costliest and most frequent natural disaster.

The federal government, along with the province have announced 16 point 5 million dollars will be spent on 32 projects under the National Disaster Mitigation Program.

On Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast an All-Hazards approach to modeling and mapping will be done.

The work will look at urban and coastal flooding, tsunami mapping, sea-level rise, land slide analysis and mapping and earthquake modeling and mapping.

The information will help local government make informed decisions on investments to mitigate the effects of flooding.
