Hit and run puppy will survive

It’s been a tough start for a six-month-old Pointer-Heeler-Cross puppy.

Fender was found by a Good Samaritan after the pup was struck by a car and left for dead.

Marika Donnelly, BC SPCA branch manager on the Sunshine Coast says the puppy suffered a broken leg, pelvis and femoral head and has had his first surgery.

“It was a complicated surgery but he’s doing well. He’s going to have quite a long haul with recovery, cast, and bandage changes. We’re going to be looking for a foster home for him, somebody who is going to be able to be with him pretty much 24-7.”

She says, “His prognosis is really good, he’s been hanging out at the vet clinic for quite a number of days on pain management while he was getting ready for surgery. Even though he’s a young, you can tell exuberant puppy, he’s dealing with the rest aspect really well and he’s a really sweet guy.”

Donnelly says Fender is also going to need physical therapy and all these procedures, along with neutering and vaccinations, are expected to cost at least 9,500 dollars.

She’s hoping people can help with some of those costs by making a donation to the Sunshine Coast Branch.
