Illicit drug use continues to take a toll

The numbers of people dying from illicit drug use continues to climb.

There were 128 suspected drug overdose deaths in B.C. in September, a 38 per cent increase over the number of deaths in September of 2017.

South Vancouver Island Health is one of the five regions where rates of illicit drug overdose deaths are highest.

So far, in 2018, there has been 26 illicit drug deaths in Nanaimo.

But that’s better than 2017 when 54 people died as a result of illicit drug use.
