Nanaimo Mayor John Ruttan says a group has come forward with plans for a “Hilton” branded hotel downtown.
Speaking at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, Ruttan said the group only recently approached the city.
The location would be at 10 Front Street, land once earmarked for a condo development.
Ruttan also said the City expects to finalize the permits for the large hotel being built on City property in partnership with the Chinese travel company SSS Manhao within days. He says construction could start in a few weeks.
