Job cuts coming to Nanaimo Ladysmith School District

Some deep cuts are coming to the Nanaimo Ladysmith School District’s budget.

SD68’s Business Committee met Wednesday night to make some final decisions on where to cut back to deal with a $5.4 million shortfall.

Secretary Treasurer Phil Turin says trustees made tough choices, including eliminating the equivalent of about 12 full time teaching jobs, 16 support worker jobs and one administrative position.

Turin says the Business Committee is recommending cutting slightly more than the $5.4 million needed, so the school district will have a contingency fund of about $175,000.
