Calls for service from police rising

With school soon to be recessed for the summer break and the hot weather upon us the Nanaimo RCMP detachment is seeing an increase in their workload.
Constable Gary O’Brien says, for example, this past Tuesday, local officers responded to 126 calls for service….
Eight of the calls for service were abandoned 9-1-1 calls, that O’Brien says, take away precious time from other calls….

O’Brien says with the increasing volume of calls, police have to prioritize them with life or death, or a crime in progress taking priority.

Other calls for service, like motor vehicle incidents or family disputes, may take several hours to be resolved and involve multiple officers.
Others like thefts, assaults, and frauds may take weeks if not months to before a resolution is found.
