BC leading the way when it comes to HIV treatment

The province is celebrating the success of a program that treats people at risk of an HIV infection, both prior to exposure, or to those who may already have been exposed to the disease.
Adrian Dix, Minister of Health says the province is seeing a consistent decline in new cases of HIV since no-cost coverage of the pre-exposure and post-exposure drugs on January 1st with over 2,000 people having been prescribed the potentially life-saving medications. …..

There are 165 people taking advantage of the program on Vancouver Island and 313 in the Vancouver Coastal Health jurisdiction.

The BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS says the median age of those accessing the pre-exposure cocktail is 34.
There are 7,271 B.C. residents living with HIV today.
