The Nanaimo Airport has set records for passenger volume for eight consecutive years and more than 390,000 people are expected to pass through the gates in 2018.
The soil has been turned on a 15 million dollar expansion project that will see the footprint of the facility more than double.

Hooper says this phase of construction will see the screening line in the security area move much faster and the departure lounge will be able to accommodate 320 passengers, up from 140.
