Distracted driving is still all too common

March was Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the Nanaimo RCMP handed out 27 violations tickets for distracted driving and related offences.
Constable Gary O’Brien says police, had they had the full enforcement team out all month, could have handed out twice as many tickets for distracted driving.
He says police were busy with other investigations during the blitz but they did partner with community volunteers who conducted “Cell Watch” operations…..
O’Brien says most of the tickets they did hand out were for using electronic devices while driving, however violation tickets were also issued for driving while control was obstructed.
