Provincial wine promotion could hurt Island wineries

While the Alberta government continues to look for ways to increase the pressure on B.C. over the pipeline dispute, the smaller wineries on the Island are worried.
That’s after the Rachel Notley government decided it would no longer import B.C. wine into Alberta.
Brenda Hetman-Craig, co-owner of 40 Knots Winery in Comox and head of the Wine Island Vintners Association says the bigger wineries on the mainland will need to find more ways to sell their wine and that could put the squeeze on the Island wineries…..
Hetman-Craig says the best Island wineries can hope for is loyalty from it’s customers.
She says the program announced by the province last week aiming to increase sales of B.C. wine will do little to help the Island wineries who are too small to be part of the provincial liquor distribution system.
