BC Ferries is the key item on the agenda as the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities opens its annual meeting in Qualicum Beach.
It’s the subject of a special session Friday afternoon.
Sunshine Coast Regional District Chair Garry Nohr says there’s also going to be a chance to bring other municipal leaders up to speed on what ferry dependent communities have been doing.
Nanaimo Mayor John Ruttan says finding a solution to the situation with BC Ferries is going to be a tough nut to crack.
The BC Ferry Coalition is planning a rally outside the convention Saturday. They say it’s going to be a show of support for the work municipal politicians are doing on the issue and a protest against provincial policies.
Ruttan says another transportation issue is likely to generate a lot of talk; the future of passenger rail on the Island.
The Regional District of Nanaimo had been calling for a special meeting with the Island Corridor Foundation at the convention, but it doesn’t appear that will happen.
