RCMP track suspect for more than three hours in the bush near Parksville

Oceanside RCMP had to initiate, what they call, the dangerous track of a suspect that lasted three and a half hours through snow, slush, water, fallen trees and rivers in the Parksville area.

It began after mounties spotted a stolen vehicle around 11 Thursday night.

The driver refused to stop and was tailed by police until he hit the ditch.

The passenger, a 32 year old man gave himself up but the driver fled on foot into the bush.

Police located several weapons in the vehicle.

The suspect was tracked through the bush and once located, still refused to give himself up prompting police to use their service dog, whom the man tried to drown in the river, before police pulled out a taser and took the 29 year old suspect into custody.
