Dog recovers from flea infestation, Lantzville man faces charges

A Lantzville man has been charged with one count of animal cruelty under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The BC SPCA says after losing about 85 per cent of his blood and nearly his life, Rascal, a terrier, has recovered and is thriving in a new home.

Tina Heary, BC SPCA senior animal protection officer says flea infestations can cause a serious threat to the health and well-being of animals because fleas feed on blood and itchy irritated skin in an animal should not be ignored.

Heary says Rascal was literally dying from fleas and his treatment included emergency life-saving blood transfusions.
