Potential devastating crash avoided

Central Island Traffic Services says a head on crash with a closing speed of 240 kilometers an hour could have been devastating.
That’s after an alleged impaired driver, going the wrong way on Highway 19 near the HIghway 4 junction, was arrested.
It happened just after 7 o’clock Thursday morning.
Police say the speed limit both ways on that portion of the Inland Island Highway is 120 kilometers an hour.
Police say the car, driven by a 46 year old Nanaimo man, eventually veered into the median and rolled.
He was arrested after failing a roadside screening test.
