Ladysmith applies for money to remove derelict vessels

The Town of Ladysmith is hoping to get some funding from the federal government to remove nine derelict vessels from the harbour.
The Town has done the legwork to identify nine of around 40 derelict vessels that are the most problematic and applied for funding from Transport Canada’s Abandoned Boats Program.
Mayor Aaron Stone says Transport Canada officials are well aware of the problem of derelict vessels in the Ladysmith Harbour and he figures the chances of getting a grant for this wave of removals is good…..
In conjunction with the funding proposal, the Town has issued a public notice of the plan to take possession and remove the 9 vessels unless the owners move the boats from their current locations to an authorized area.
