Good Samaritans says it’s being forced to lay off more than 100 employees at Nanaimo’s Wexford Creek residential care facility, because it’s not getting enough money from Island Health.
But Island Health says that’s not the case.
Good Samaritans says in the six years of their contract with Island Health they’ve lost more than 3 million dollars.
Norm Peters of Island Health says the funding was set out when the Good Samaritans bid for the contract, and it’s in line with similar operations. He also says Island Health is willing to sit down with Good Samaritans and look at ways to avoid layoffs.
Good Samaritans also runs Christensen Village in Gibsons, and around 30 other facilities in BC and Alberta. They say those facilities are not facing layoff.
