Bears are looking for any and all food sources right now, as the omnivores try to put on their winter weight before they go into hibernation.
Sergeant with the Conservation Officer Service in the Central Island Zone, Ben York says bears are destroyed because people can’t be bothered to remove attractants from their properties.
The public is asked to remove fruit from their trees or the ground and lock their garbage in a secure location, preferably indoors.
York says cougars are always around, but they only come into residential areas when tracking their prey, like deer.
They have little to no interest in humans.
