Nanaimo celebrates Rivers Day

Sunday is Rivers Day and there are a multitude of celebrations going on in the City of Nanaimo.
Deborah Beck, Recreation Coordinator says the day is set aside to celebrate the world’s waterways and their importance to all life on earth….
This year the City of Nanaimo, Nanaimo Area Land Trust and Nanaimo River Watershed Roundtable will be hosting a number of tours and activities.
The Nanaimo Area Land Trust will host an interpretive side channel walk, live music by local bands, interactive booths and a salmon BBQ all at Bowen Park.
The Nanaimo River Watershed Roundtable will also host a number of watershed tours and VIU will do a rafting tour.
It’s a good idea to register ahead of time for the tours as some of them are by bus and you can find the information to participate on the City of Nanaimo’s home page.

There will be a tree planting ceremony at Merle Logan Field in honour of National Tree Day which is next Wednesday where tree vouchers will be on sale for 20 dollars so residents can plant one in celebration of the day on their own property.
