The District of Sechelt is responding after the local library raised concerns that they were being underfunded.
Sechelt Mayor Bruce Milne says the reason why the Gibsons library gets more funding compared to the one in Sechelt is that of their history.
Milne says as they work towards 2019, they’ll discuss the libraries mottos, see if it’s working out and go from there.
The 5-year agreement between the District of Sechelt and the Sechelt Library will expire by then and Milne says there’s no doubt, the demand for the library service is going up, but there’s only so much the municipality can do at the moment.
Milne says there’s also a huge demand for more public parks, but sometimes the government just has to say no.
