Save Cedar Schools receives results from FOI request

The Save Cedar Schools coalition is celebrating a small victory in their attempt to get answers from the Nanaimo Ladysmith School District. After forking out $1,800 and waiting four and a half months, they have finally received the results of their first Freedom of Information request from SD68.

Steve Rae speaks for the coalition and says they will now have a chance to see what the board was trying to hide. He says it appears closing Cedar Secondary and moving the kids to John Barsby School was identified as being the easiest thing to do. However Rae questions whether the easiest solution is actually the right thing to do.

The Coalition now has to sift through the thousands of documents released by the district, with the hope of finding some ammunition to use against the district in the fight to save thee Cedar schools.

Cedar Secondary School, Woodbank Elementary School and North Cedar Intermediate School are slated to be shut down by SD68 as part of a 10-year facilities plan.
