Halfmoon Bay Director Garry Nohr has been acclaimed as Sunshine Coast Regional District Chair for 2014.
Frank Mauro, the Director for Area A, was acclaimed as vice-Chair at the Board’s final meeting for 2013.
Nohr says among the goals he’s setting for the coming year are economic development and strengthening the relationship with the Sechelt and Squamish First Nations. Including getting a protocol agreement with the Squamish similar to the one they have with the Sechelt.
“We should look at every opportunity to reduce the tax load by renewed efforts at economic development,” he told the Board after accepting the Chair. “(we should) build on relations with First Nations and complete a protocol agreement with the Squamish Nation, and look at opportunities to build economic development with the Sechelt First Nation to start with, and maybe the Squamish later on.”
Nohr also says there’s a big challenge on the horizon in deciding how to go forward with solid waste and recycling, especially with the new Multi Material BC system rolling out.
