Sunshine Coast cold weather homeless shelter hoping numbers help loosen government wallets

The Sunshine Coast’s cold weather homeless shelter is open till the end of the month, but they’re already saying it’s been a busy season.

Gibsons Councillor Lee Ann Johnson is part of the group running the shelter.

For the first time, they’ve opened every night instead of just “extreme weather” nights.

Johnson says 8 to 10 people have been using the shelter every night.  She says they don’t know if that’s because they’re open consistently, or because the need is greater, but either way it’s going to help them make a case for federal and provincial funding for next season.

The openings this season were paid for with donations and money from local governments.
