Lutes says referedum to close for her to support loan

After getting a yes vote in the March 8th referendum Sechelt is going ahead with borrowing $7.4-million for the new wastewater treatment plant.

Council passed the necessary bylaws Wednesday, but it wasn’t unanimous.

Councillor Alice Lutes says the vote results were too close.

The final tally from the referendum was 868 yes and 853 no, with only 23 per cent of eligible voters casting a ballot.

The $24-million wastewater treatment plant project is due to be completed by late this year.
