Finances are top of mind for a couple of local Councils:
In Nanaimo they’re getting a look Wednesday at how the budget shapes up after trimming things last week by moving some big expenses for new police officers and a new fire hall to 2015. That’ll bring the expected tax increase closer to 2 per cent.
City staff are also asking for the OK to start work now on $371-thousand in upgrades and repairs at Caledonia Park.
And in Sechelt, Council will be mulling over an idea from their Finance Advisory Committee. The Committee is suggesting a special “Infrastructure Renewal Levy” . The $182 parcel tax would go to reserves for replacing things like roads and storm drains.
Gibsons is using a 1 per cent tax increase to do something similar.
