Community Justice Sunshine Coast re-brands to Restorative Justice

The Sunshine Coast’s Community Justice Program is changing its name.

The group re-launched Thursday as the Restorative Justice Program of the Sunshine Coast.

Bill Prowse is the Chair.  He says the new identity gives people a better idea of what they do.  It also puts them in line with similar groups around North America.

Prowse says restorative justice has been active on the Sunshine Coast since 1998, working with RCMP, the Sechelt First Nation and School District 46.  And he says it’s an effective approach.

Prowse says one of the most common crimes that’s dealt with in the program is shoplifting.
