Simons, NDP hammer government on DriveAble peer review

Powell River Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons has taken his fight for changes to DriveAble to Question Period at the Legislature.

Simons, and other opposition MLAs, are demanding a promised peer review of the science behind the system that’s supposed to determine if older drivers can keep their licenses.

They say so far all they’ve got is a report written by DriveAble’s inventor.

Simons says a recent article in a scientific journal by a group of eight experts supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research found it’s only accurate about half the time.

Justice Minister Suzanne Anton says DriveAble is being evaluated, but it’s a fundamentally good program that improves safety on the roads.
