Nanaimo RCMP say they've broken up a theft ring specializing in identity fraud

Nanaimo RCMP say they’ve broken up a ring responsible for “dozens upon dozens” of thefts from Victoria to Oceanside.

Police arrested the suspected ring leaders, a man and woman, last Thursday.

Investigators from Nanaimo have been working with RCMP in Ladysmith and Oceanside and the Victoria Police to pull together evidence and recommend charges.

Constable Gary O’Brien of Nanaimo RCMP says they had a group working for them who would  target vehicles looking for wallets and purses.

O’Brien says in some cases as well as losing money, victims have had their credit ratings destroyed.
