Port Alberni RCMP say 5 people are in custody awaiting charges after they raided a suspected drug house just a couple of blocks from an elementary school.
It happened on Wednesday.
Police say they’d been watching the house for a while, and it was attracting a “criminal element” to the neighbourhood and putting safety at risk. They say tips from the public helped build the case for a search warrant.
“They are to be commended for assisting the police in eradicating this drug house Drug houses are a plague on our community, and have the ability to terrorize its residents and destroy entire neighbourhoods. They bring violence and chaos to an area, often reducing neighbourhoods to war zones

RCMP say in the raid they seized powdered and crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription painkillers. Investigators say they think the house was being used to make crack.
All 5 are facing charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking.
