A new group is hoping to get the E&N trail expanded through Nanaimo. The idea of a trail along the E&N corridor started in the 90s and some sections have already been completed, including eight kilometers in Nanaimo. The Regional District of Nanaimo recently announced funding for a new section near Coombs. Now, the Nanaimo Region Rail Trail Partnership wants to raise some money to add more. Partnership Chair Andre Sullivan says they want to add a section that will cross the Millstone River and go through the Old City Quarter to Cinnabar Valley.
At the southern end of the trail, the Capital Regional District is getting started this month on new sections of the trail around Victoria.
