Unnecessary hospitalizations due to chronic disease are reaching the tipping point of seriously harming the country’s healthcare system.
That’s according to a report by the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement.
Stephen Samis with the Foundation says there’s one particular disease filling up the system….
Samis says care needs to be shifted for the disease from the hospital to the patient’s home.
He says that would prevent 69,000 emergency department visits and 44,000 hospitalizations and save about 700 million dollars over 5 years.
