If you’ve been up in the Nanoose area north of Nanaimo lately you may have noticed there’s been a gate installed in the median.

This is the first such gate on Vancouver Island.
That section of highway 19 was chosen for the project because it was identified as a high crash segment of road.
There were 23 collisions there in 2014 and 2015.
