BCNU pres. visits NRGH and vows to keep pressing Island Health for a review of CDMR

The President of the BC Nurses Union dropped by Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Friday, and it wasn’t just to wish nurses a happy Valentine’s Day.

Deborah McPherson says she wanted to hear first hand how nurses are handling Care Delivery Model Redesign, which has care aides doing some things nurses used to handle.

McPherson says they’re continuing their public campaign against the CDMR, and they’ve gathered over 12-thousand signatures on a petition to Island Health.

But with the health authority unwilling to agree to an independent review, McPherson says they’ve also filed grievances and plan to take some issues to arbitration.

CDMR is supposed to start at Royal Jubilee and Victoria General in April.
