A busy weekend for Nanaimo fire crews

The Nanaimo Fire Department was called out to two separate fires over the weekend.
The first call came in around 9 Saturday night.
When crews arrived on scene they found smoke coming from a commercial building in the 300 block of Wallace Street.
Captain Ennis Mond with Nanaimo Fire Rescue says the third floor, where the fire was, is where most of the damage is……..
There were no injuries and the entire building is closed until an investigation is complete.
Then around 6 o’clock Sunday fire crews were called to a house fire on Gillespie Street.
Crews arrived to find heavy flames from the front of the house.
Two occupants had self-evacuated however a family dog died in the fire.
One person was treated for smoke inhalation and later released.
Mond says the house was heavily damaged……
The causes of the fires have not yet been determined.
