MLA Nicholas Simons says he hopes the government is paying attention to the Opposition Committee on Agriculture and Food’s first report.
The NDP member for Powell River-Sunshine Coast is the only MLA from our area on the Committee. It was formed out of frustration with the government killing the Legislature’s agriculture committee.
Simons says as they traveled the province and heard from farmers and others it became obvious there were issues the government ought to be tackling.
The Opposition Committee makes recommendations on the ALR, helping farmers get ready for the impacts of climate change, and helping new farmers get established.
The report also calls for the government to re-form the Legislature’s agriculture committee.
