Food? Cash? Helping hand? Bring it on down to Hamperville

Christmas is closer than you might realize, and Nanaimo’s annual Hamperville food drive is underway.

It comes as Food Banks Canada reports an increase in food bank use across the country.

Hamperville – a joint effort of the Salvation Army and Loaves and Fishes Foodbank – aims to put a dent in that, at least for the season.

Loaves and Fishes Executive Director Peter Sinclair also says they’re looking forward to being in their new facility during Hamperville this year.  “Its given us the space we need to accept all the generous donations that are coming in from community,” he says. “And, most importantly, we’re keeping all that food dry and all our volunteers dry as they sort through it. It’s a huge blessing to us.”

Sinclair says they’re looking for help on three fronts:

Food donations, cash donations, and people to sort and distribute the food.

The Great Nanaimo Toy Drive also kicked off yesterday.
