The Director of VIU’s Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation says First Nations people can have a real say in determining the outcome of the upcoming federal election.
Doug White says there’s a long history of aboriginal people being excluded from voting, but times have changed.
Doug White says federal law and policy has a major impact on First nations people, so voting in federal elections is critical.
White says the AFN has identified 51 ridings where the First Nations vote could have a major impact. They include Cowichan-Malahat-Langford, Nanaimo-Ladysmith, Coutenay-Alberni, and North Island – Powell River.
