Federal employment minister visits Nanaimo to sign job training deal

Federal employment minister Pierre Poilievre is on the Island this week.

He started the day at Nanaimo’s VMAC Global Technologies, where he signed a job training deal with provincial ministers Shirley Bond and Michelle Stilwell.

Pollievre says they want to ensure people are trained for jobs that are available and in demand, and give companies more say in that training.

He says they’re making changes to the Employment Insurance system, so people who are on Social Assistance, but not EI, will be able to get training.

He says British Columbians are also benefitting from the Canada Job Grant. Pollievre credits Bond with making that happen.

The CJG is providing $34,000 to train 23 VMAC employees in sales, marketing, leadership development and supply chain technology.

Pollievre is making a stop tomorrow in Ladysmith, during what has all the hallmarks of a campaign-style swing through the region.
