Mount Washington forced to close

Mount Washington has shut down due to the a lack of snow, leaving skiers and snowboarders on the Vancouver Island waiting yet again.

Spokesperson Brent Curtain says opening late and now having to close has been a tough on staff. About 200 staff members are affected. He says if they get another big snowfall, the mountain may re-open. This year marks the lowest three-month snowfall since 1979.

Meanwhile, the Dakota Ridge Winter Recreation Area on the Sunshine Coast is still open. Other coastal ski hills like Grouse, Seymour, Cypress and Whistler are all open but don’t have as much snow as usual.
