Nanaimo woman not shy about fighting off would-be thief

A Nanaimo woman managed to foil an attempt to steal her purse on Friday, even after the suspect pulled down her pants.

RCMP Constable Gary O’Brien says it happened around 4:00 pm as the woman was walking along Bruce Avenue towards Foster Street. She felt a tap on her shoulder and turned around to see a man in a balaclava.

O’Brien says the woman tried chasing after the man, and a neighbour helped drive her around the area to look but there was no sign of him. Nanaimo RCMP had no luck either.

The suspect is white, about 5’11”, and 140 lbs with long dirty-blonde hair pulled back into a 5″ pony tail.
