Eelgrass mapping results show the plant rebounding in Gibsons

It’s vital fish habitat, and it’s on the rebound in the waters around Gibsons.

The Town got the results of an eelgrass mapping study this week.

Consultant Diane Sanford says eelgrass beds in the stretch from the Government Wharf to Granthams landing are bigger than when she first plotted them.

She says that’s good news for fish, and good news for the climate because the grass is like land-plants and can absorb carbon.

Sanford also says planned improvements to Armours Beach, if they’re done carefully, won’t do any damage to the eelgrass in that area.
