Gibsons council has approved a new Official Community Plan. It was passed last night in a 4-1 vote, after a public hearing marked by criticism of both the content of the update and the process.
Several people claimed the Town was ignoring advice from an advisory panel. Mayor Wayne Rowe dismissed claims the steering committee was ignored, and called claims the process was corrupt an “insult”.
Councillor Silas White was the only dissenting vote. He says the issue is the timing of an update while there’s a controversial proposal in the works. White says the OCP Update was becoming too closely linked to the proposed “George” waterfront hotel in the public’s mind, and the update should be put on hold.
